as most of you know, i've really been struggling with my health. i'm just so dang tired all the time! there's a lot more going on than that but that is my biggest complaint. i've been in and out the doctors for the past 6 months trying to figure out what's going on. once all other options were exhausted, the rheumatology specialist decided to start treating me for fibromyalgia. which would be great except that the medicine targets the pain of fibromyalgia and then we would hope that i would get relief from fatigue as a secondary benefit. not good enough.
so i went back to google... i remembered coming across an article a few months back regarding sugar and fibromyalgia. that article kept crossing my mind so i went back and found it. i'm very intolerant of sugar (unfortunately) so the article rang true to me. something stood out to me and that was a sentence about sugar causing problems with "yeast in your gut". i'd never heard that before so i actually googled "yeast in your gut" and that is where i think i have found the solution to my problems!
after much research i have found that the body has a yeast called Candida albicans that usually lives in small numbers in the body, controlled by beneficial bacteria in the body and the immune system. what has happened is that a number of factors have combined together so that now i have a candida overgrowth in my system. it's too early to know forsure but it's either the cause of fibromyalgia or i don't have fibromyalgia at all, just this candida problem. i hoping the latter is true. my symptoms are caused by my body trying to fight off the extra yeast in my system and from the toxins that the yeast releases.
the funny thing is that there is no real way to test for overgrowth of candida. there are blood tests but i learned online that they are not very reliable. then my doctor said that if i were to get a postive result from a blood test, i would more than likely be in the ICU because my toxicity levels in my body would be so high. so i took a spit test this morning! yep, it's very advanced scientifically but basically i spit in a glass of distilled water before eating or drinking anything and my spit sunk to the bottom which means that i have too much yeast in my body. if that was too much information, i apologize! :) i could bore you for days with all the facts and information i've learned in the past two weeks so i won't go too much into it (too late you might say). but i'm very thankful to have come across this information because now, finally, things are starting to fit together. things are starting to make sense. now i'll try and treat the problem with diet and other supplements. it will be a long road, it won't go away that easily, but i'm just so grateful to know what is going on and that there are ways that i can treat it. i really feel blessed because i feel like i was lead to this information after much praying, fasting and pondering about my health.
if, by chance, anyone is curious, i can give you tons of websites with more information about this. thanks for listening (if you're still there). so much as been swirling around in my brain about this that it's good to get to down. maybe now i can stop thinking about it so much....

Stacey, Thanks for letting us know - at least me. I've been thinking about you a lot & hoping that you were starting to feel better. Sometimes the relief of just knowing what is going on really helps alot. I'm glad you've got a game plan. Andrew is such a cutie - Don't worry about the terrible 2's. I found that age to be the most loving, sweet, charming age. Then they turned 3... ok.. don't worry about 3 :)
I'm so glad that you found out about Candida. It is frequently a bigger problem that contributes to a lot of other problems. I did a strict candida diet starting in January of 2008 and it changed everything! Now I do have some refined sugar in my diet, but much less, and I pay more attention. But being on that super strict diet at first really supported my body in healing itself.
Let me know how you do as sometimes there are symptoms of die-off that can get worse before they get better. I didn't have that, and felt better almost immediately. Also, I have a great whole-wheat no-sugar pancake recipe on my blog. I used those a lot instead of bread, because I could have wheat but no yeast.
Love and hugs!
Bethany
