some good news and some bad news

well the good news is that mason survived another round of layoffs at his work yesterday. the bad news is that things still aren't picking up there and they cut his salary again, this time by 4%. (we actually breathed a sigh of relief when we realized that it would only be 4% this time. they speculated that it could be as much as 11% which would have stung so much more.) they cut his salary by 9% in october and we've handled that fairly well i think, but i have to admit that this additional 4% hurts. i've been through nearly every emotion possible. first gratitude that mason still has a job but then frustration that here we are buying a house and have no money. no money for cute new bedding, etc.. but mostly i think that i'm afraid. things are going to be pretty tight for us. we knew that buying this house would come with sacrifices but i guess in the midst of getting blessed right and left, i forgot about that and started getting greedy. but instead of thinking about what i don't or won't have, i'm going to try and focus on what we do. i'm going to try and keep a grateful attitude.

last night for our family scripture "study" (we have the simplified board book scriptures for andrew) we read in the book of mormon about alma the elder and how he listened to the prophet abinadi and was touched so he started teaching people what he had learned. the people that accepted the teachings had to ran away to start their new church but then the lamanites found them and made them their slaves. the lamanites wouldn't let the new converts pray out loud so they had to pray in their hearts. eventually the people were able to escape (because Heavenly Father made the guards fall into a deep sleep) and return to live with the rest of the righteous Nephites. i've been thinking about that story. it would have been much easier if Heavenly Father would have helped the people by never being found by the lamanites. but then those people would have missed out on all the faith promoting experiences that they had while being slaves to the lamanites and their testimonies would not have been as strong. he did eventually help them out of that terrible circumstance but in His own timing.

so even though we'll have very little money to put into our new house and things will be pretty tight for us for awhile, things will be ok. they will be better than ok. i know that Heavenly Father is mindful of us and knows our situation. and if the seemingly worse thing happened and mason lost his job and we eventually lost our new house, it would still all be ok. i always seem to forget that Heavenly Father is in charge and the things that happen are for His divine purposes. He knows what's best for us, even if it does hurt a little bit.

That is a tough break on the money front...thankfully he still has a job! What a blessing that you know the HF is in charge and that no matter what he knows what is best for you. Learning and growing in the gospel is a great blessing...thanks for sharing what you know. Plus, you must have forgotten about housewarming gifts...that is a blessing of a new home! =)

What great a great blog entry! Thanks for reminding us all to look on the bright side and count our blessings. When do you close on the house and move in? We're excited for your family and this new step. It will all work out.

You have such a wonderful attitude about the whole thing (I already told Jason this today). I really admire you, Stacey. Thanks for reminding me what you're supposed to do when times get tough (not whine like I do).
